Families aren't always easy and mine is no exception. My parents divorced when I was 2 years old and growing up, my relationship with my dad was really challenging. It took me a long time to realize that it wasn't necessarily MY dad that I missed, but rather having A dad who was present for me in a healthy way. As I grew up and tried to have a different relationship with him, it became increasingly frustrating because he just wasn't capable of having the kind of emotional relationship with me that I wanted. It used to make me mad but as I grew up and understood more about life and parenting and hell, just being a human being in the world, I came to a place of peace with everything that happened (or didn't) between us. My dad died in 2019. I did not cry. This song tells my story.
